Music Battle: Robin Thicke vs Marvin Gaye and George Clinton

If you've listened to the radio lately, you've heard Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" plenty of times.
Apparently there's been some drama over it, because reps for Marvin Gaye and George Clinton believe Robin's music is too similar to their own work from years back.

Yep, both parties are suing for copyright violation.

Oh, our silly litigious society.

Have a listen to the songs, and then I want to know what you think:

Robin Thicke - Blurred Lines

Marvin Gaye - Got to Give It Up

Funkadelic (George Clinton) - Sexy Ways

Hmm, I don't see it. I'm thinking this is just a ploy by the Marvin Gaye and George Clinton camps to get back in the limelight for a little bit.

What do you think? Leave your opinion of the lawsuits in the comments.

Music Battle: Sara Bareilles vs Katy Perry

Anybody else notice that the newest Sara Bareilles and Katy Perry songs sound alike?

I believe Sara's came out first, but I'm wondering who recorded theirs first, or at least when the music was written for each. Did they have the same producer? Or is this just a crazy coincidence?

I'll let you decide:

Sara Bareilles - Brave

Katy Perry - Roar

What do you think? Do they sound pretty similar to you?
And who did it better? Leave your vote in the comments.

Update: My buddy Clint shared this sweet mash-up of the two songs with me today. Cool, huh?

A Toast to the Barneys and to Eclairs

One of my really good DC friends got married a couple weekends ago, and last Saturday I got to see the couple at their Utah reception and congratulate them in person.

Shandi and Chris are adorable together, and it was fun to chat with them about being newlyweds.
More DC friends (Becca, Christina, and Dave) also came, so it was kind of a mini-reunion.

If you know me, then you know I love eclairs.

Not like. Love.

Eclairs account for an embarrassingly high percentage of my happiness at wedding receptions.
Especially when I get there before the other friends and have to sit alone for a bit.

I'm perfectly fine sitting all alone at a table, as long as I have a couple eclairs to keep me company.
(But then I'm even happier when I have friends to converse with and tasty pastries to eat, too).

Congrats, Shandi and Chris! So excited for you guys and your new life together!

Hiking Cecret Lake

I stayed local over the Labor Day weekend.

Usually I'd go on a quick trip somewhere, but I'd had to move apartments until Saturday. So I figured at least a little relaxation and unplugging from technology would do me good.

Which is why I decided to take time for the short hike up to Cecret Lake.

Plus, pretty soon it's gonna get cold up in the mountains and then it'll start snowing.

I'm glad I did, because it's a great place to meditate and ponder and just chill out and listen to the wind.

How could I not feel wonderful after soaking in these views for a couple hours?
