The Mailman Delivers... For Now

Even on a snowy Saturday in Salt Lake City, UT.

Guess the postal service hasn't stopped the Saturday service yet.
(That goes into effect as of August 2013, and I hope it won't still be snowing in SLC at that point.)

My Stair-Climbing Theme Song

Today I took the stairs instead of the elevator.

Only 3 floors, but it'll add up over time, right?

Well, because everything is better with internal theme music, this was the tune in my head as I scaled those flights (and I intend to draw on Rocky often, particularly when the elevator is sounding really good at the end of a long day).

Do you have special theme songs for mundane, every day tasks you do?
Or is it just me that needs the extra motivation?

Happy Presidents Day!

Happy Presidents Day, everyone!

And because everything is better with Star Wars...

There's pretty much no way our day could get better after that video, but I hope we all have fun anyway!

Happy Valentines Day, All You Lovable People!

And "lovable people" includes every single person who reads (and doesn't read) this post.
I hope we don't take the people we love for granted the other 364 days of the year, but this (kinda like Christmas) is a good reminder for each of us of something we should constantly be aware of.
So let's all show extra kindness and love to those we cherish and value so much, but maybe don't tell as often as we should.

Give a kind word.
Give a long-overdue shout-out.
Give a bouquet of flowers.
Give a box of chocolates.*
Give a hug.
Give a kiss.
Give of yourself.

Because that's what life is about.

And it'd be a shame to wait one more day to let these people know they're one of the best things to happen in your life.

Spread the love!
Happy Valentines!

*Or celery or green peppers or carrots or whatever the person likes.

Monopoly Murder: One Will No Longer Pass Go

If you didn't hear, they killed off an old Monopoly token and put a new one in its place.

Voting was to decide which of these would be removed from the game:

The current pieces
The loser was the iron (announcement video), which isn't too surprising to me, since I can't think of any time in my whole life that someone was voluntarily the iron while playing.

In addition, fans were allowed to vote for which of these five would take the iron's place:
The new options
The replacing honor went to none other than the cat (announcement video).

Honestly, I don't mind losing the iron, but having a cat instead?! We already have a dog!
None of the new options were that great, in my opinion, but I guess the voters have spoken.

Anyone have 6-8 spare hours and want to spend it playing a game of Monopoly with me?

Tunes-day Trio: Rainbow Connection

George Strait, the King of Country, provided last week's Tunes-day Trio (TT, for short).

This week, we're going more generic with the theme of Colors.

I loved getting suggestions from readers, and I've included them because they made for a fun triple.

Honorable mentions:
- "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" by Eiffel 65, maybe the most annoying song of my high school years
- "Mellow Yellow" by Donovan
- Cyndi Lauper's deep tune "True Colors"
- "Lady in Red" by Chris de Burgh, which was (maybe still is?) played at every church dance
- and of course, Kermit the Frog's "Rainbow Connection"

Okay, now the three chosen songs:

"It Ain't Easy Being Green" by Kermit the Frog
Pretty impressive that he's got two shout-outs in this blogpost, and somehow I didn't even think of this one. So thanks to my sister Megan for reminding me of this perfectly themed song.

"Valentine" by Delays (from the album You See Colours)
I'd never even heard of this band before, let alone the album, but my friend Amanda recommended it, so I gave it a listen. British pop has put out some pretty good stuff over the years, and I liked this one, too. If you'd like, the whole album is available with one button click here. Oh, and the song is called "Valentine", and next week is Valentines Day. Perfect timing!

"Try" by Pink
Pink is one of the most underrated performers out there right now, and this video proves it, in my opinion. Singing, dancing, acting, all at the same time. And doing quite well at all three, too.

I'll admit, I'm very happy about how the TT had a song, album, artist setup. Thanks for making that possible, Megan and Amanda!

Next Week
Alright, so since next week is indeed Valentines Day, I considered just doing the subject of love, but that's waaaaaaay too broad. It's basically 95% of all music.

So instead, let's go with the topic of sweetness/sweets/candy.

Not sure if that's too specific, but I guess we'll find out together, eh?

So once again, if you've got a song that's related to the topic in some way (title, lyrics, artist, whatever), let me know by writing in the comments.
